As the move in to The Hoping Machine comes closer to reality, I am reflecting on something I never realized prior and have never seen discussed in the forums I have patronized.
Foremost in the concept of off grid living and/or tiny house living is the decision to live consciously. We are accustomed to everything being automated, to all of the decisions being made for us, and simply trading away our lives to surrender to someone else making those decisions. It would be hyperbolic to call it slavery, but some days it feels very much like it.
The alternative, in making those decisions, is to live life actively rather than passively. You can’t sleepwalk through it because every decision can have a major impact, from waste disposal to storage decisions.
I am finding the decision making process exciting, but I would be lying if I called it easy.
